KIDS’ NYE

The party for New Year’s is not just for adults!  We put together some games and mocktails to get the kiddos involved!

MOCKTAILS

Cookies & Milk

Top a shatterproof flute filled with milk with a cookie!

Sparkling Ring Pop

Drop a Ring Pop in a shatterproof flute of sparkling water or Sprite!

GAMES

Confetti Poppers

These are so much fun not just for kids but adults too!

Sparkle Science

This fizzy project is perfect for the countdown!

Materials needed:

-Glitter or confetti

-Baking soda

-Food coloring (optional)

-Vinegar

-Wine glass or flute (we chose shatterproof)

-Cookie tray or pan (with sides)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place a flute glass onto a cookie sheet or pan with sides (to catch the overflow).

  2. Sprinkle a generous amount of glitter or confetti into the bottom of the flute glass.

  3. Add baking soda to cover the confetti (you shouldn’t see any sparkles for this part).

  4. Mix vinegar and food coloring into a cup (optional).

  5. Grab the kids, this is their part! Pour the vinegar into the flute and enjoy the “fizz” of bubbling sparkles spilling up and over the flute glass!

Star Piñata

You could buy or make any piñata shape.  We chose a star but a ball would also be fun to emulate the ball drop for New Year’s!  Fill with glow-sticks( what we used), bubbles, stickers, or candy!

Should you choose to make a piñata (this is actually a great project for kids to get involved), here are the steps.

Materials needed:

-balloon in the shape of desired piñata

-newspaper, magazines, paper bags or tissue paper cut into strips

-2 parts water to 1 part flour mixture (this acts as glue and should be the consistency of pancake batter)

-string

-hot glue gun

-confetti, wrapping paper, or tissue paper (to decorate the outside of piñata)

-piñata filler of choice

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cover working surface with plastic wrap.

  2. Blow up balloon.

  3. Cover balloon by dipping paper scrap strips into flour/water mixture.  It’s best to do two layers.

  4. Allow to dry completely.

  5. Pop the balloon and remove from your paper ache shell.

  6. Fill shell with desired filler.

  7. Use a paper scrap or small piece of cardboard to close the opening using a hot glue gun.

  8. Add holes and string to the top of your piñata for hanging.

  9. Cover piñata with confetti, wrapping paper scraps or tissue paper strips for decoration.

  10. Take turns to break it!

We hope you’ll find something in our suggestions that brings you and the littles joy for New Year’s Eve! Happy New Year!
