HOSTING TIPS

Hosting season is upon us and with it creeps the pressure to make your guests’ experience nothing short of perfect.  Take the stress away with these tips and reminders of what celebrating during the holidays is really about.

-Prep as much as you can ahead of time. Not only does this limit the room for error but guests want to spend time with you not just watch you cook!

-Have a clearly designated space for bags and coats.  While most guests will arrive around the same time, there will be those that are perpetually early and those fashionably late. This eases the burden on all.

-Always dim the big lights.  Better yet, if someone asks how they can help, this is an easy task that really does make such a difference.

-Create a playlist for background music.  Great music will keep guests fully engaged so they won’t miss a beat in conversation.

-Allow guests to refill their own drinks.  Invite them into your home—not just to your home. This small adjustment creates a space that makes them feel comfortable and included.

-A smile and hug to greet your guests and presence throughout the night will do more for them and you than anything you serve.

Hosting is for everyone, whether it be your first or fifteenth year.  Your guest list said “yes” to you and your home for their celebration, an honor often overlooked.  Don’t get so caught up in the details that you miss the moment!

“Entertaining is about making people feel welcome and comfortable, not about perfection." - Ina Garten
